Celebrity Divorce Could Utilize Mediation to Settle

Tuesday, July, 21, 2015

The highly publicized split between Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck will likely be settled through arbitration, according to representatives from both camps. The couple is ending a 10 year marriage that included three children.

Statements released by both husband and wife report the split is amicable, despite reports Affleck was unfaithful to Garner – a factor which could affect their ability to negotiate during proceedings.

Both spouses entered the marriage with significant assets, so it is expected there could be lengthy debate over financial matters. Additionally, custody and child support issues could play a significant role.

Many divorces these days are settled through mediation. In addition to saving time and money, the process is confidential – something that can be especially beneficial to celebrity couples. Though the final arrangement could likely become public via the Hollywood grapevine, officially the proceedings and settlement will be private. Many couples believe this makes it easier for children to cope with the divorce of their parents, and in the case of celebrity marriages, it helps to protect the reputation and image of one or both spouses.

Rumors have swirled for years that Affleck was unfaithful to Garner, but it was not until recently when moving vans were seen transporting Affleck’s belongings from the family home that a split seemed imminent. Shortly after photos were taken of the events transpiring at the home, the spouses together released a statement to the E! Celebrity news network confirming their split and stating, “‘we go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time.”
