Brian James – Divorce Mediator and Parenting Coordinator
Brian James is an experienced Divorce Mediator and Parenting Coordinator with offices throughout Chicagoland and Southeastern Wisconsin. He started his mediation practice, C.E.L. and Associates Inc. in late 2005 and has been helping family since 1994.
Brian earned his B.S. in Sociology from Northern Illinois University in 1994 and completed training in Mediation and Conflict Resolution at Northwestern University. Over the years, he has been both a speaker and participant in numerous workshops related to divorce, mediation, peaceful negotiations, working with high conflict people, etc.
For the first 10 years of his professional career, Brian worked in the Criminal Justice System helping domestic violence and divorcing families resolve family conflicts and stay out of court. He assisted with, and was part of, the healing process that took place after these life-changing events had occurred. His approach to mediation is client driven. By aiding his clients with the resolution of their divorce issues outside of the courtroom, Mr. James helps create a win/win situation for all parties in a divorce. In his role, he worked with very high-conflict people and quickly learned that keeping them out of court was critical in helping them reach good agreements.
Brian is able to help people work through their problems, and at the same time, teach them skills to use in future conflicts. In mediation, he helps people work through their conflicts, while at the same time, teaches them problem solving, empathy, self-determination and gives them the ability to make informed decisions for themselves. When confronted with a conflict, if they refer back to what they learned in mediation, they will have a good chance of resolving their differences on their own and without court involvement.
Brian recently celebrated 21 years of marriage to his wife Cindy. They have two boys, Connor, age 18, and Evan, age 15. Connor and Evan are the C. and E. in C.E.L. & Associates.
