Following a career as a trial and appellate lawyer in government and private law practice, I now serve as a specially trained and experienced full time independent ADR neutral in US, cross-border and international patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, technology and competition law matters as well as in licensing related disputes. My ADR experience includes being an arbitrator, mediator and also an early neutral evaluator. I am also sometimes asked to take on a different role and advise litigants and their counsel who are about to participate in an ADR proceeding regarding how to best take advantage of mediation and/or arbitration opportunities, when they are most beneficial and also about those instances when it is preferable to be cautious about either ADR utilization or its timing.

I have been fully trained in ADR and qualified as a member of five of the AAA’s ADR neutral panels including, its Commercial, Large Complex Case, International (ICDR), and Patent Arbitration Panels as well as its Commercial Mediation Panel.  In addition, I also serve as a member of federal trial (USDC CDCA) and appellate courts (CAFC) ADR panels. In addition I serve on both the International Center For The Prevention & Resolution Of Disputes (CPR) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) domestic and international Panels of Distinguished Neutrals.

I also hold a degree in engineering and am qualified and Registered to Practice Before the US Patent and Trademark Office.  Beyond my J.D. law degree, I hold an LL.M degree focused on patent and competition law.  Before entering private law practice, I was an engineer, USPTO Patent Examiner and a trial, legislative and appellate attorney in the United States Department of Justice where I was responsible for both IP and competition law matters in both the civil and criminal law fields.

Special Licenses/Certifications
I received ADR mediation certifications from the U.S.D.C via the  Pepperdine  Law School Strauss Institute and in arbitration  training to the advanced level from the American Arbitration Association(AAA).
