William R. Fuhrman

Since he began law practice early 1974, Mr. Fuhrman has developed extensive transactional and trial experience. While his focus is on family law and business law, he also represents clients with real estate and landlord-tenant matters, personal injury claims, and those accused of crimes in State, federal or juvenile court.

In more than four decades of divorce cases, Mr. Fuhrman has litigated and negotiated child custody, move away, child and spousal support, the value and division of businesses and the issue of domestic violence. This element of his practice includes juvenile court dependency cases involving Child Protective Services.

For the businesses and professionals he represents, William R. Fuhrman has formed corporations, limited liability companies and partnerships, as well as prepared and negotiated their contracts and leases. In addition, he handles disputes with customers, employees, government agencies, landlords and vendors. And Mr. Fuhrman has handled discrimination, sexual harassment and claims of violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Mr. Fuhrman, also, prosecutes and defends commercial and residential unlawful detainers, including Section 8 housing cases. He cut his teeth defending people accused of crimes, including homicide, robbery, battery, sexual assaults, DUI and drug offenses.

Mr. Fuhrman routinely appears in court throughout San Diego County, including those in Central San Diego, Vista, El Cajon, and Chula Vista. Periodically, he appears for clients in the courts of Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties.

The Path to Becoming Skilled and Conscientious

William R. Fuhrman has been a San Diego attorney for more than 40 years. He was a Public Defender during the first three years of his legal career, representing adults and juveniles accused of crimes as diverse as murder and DUI, robbery and rape. Thereafter, Mr. Fuhrman was a partner in three law firms: Avery & Fuhrman; Adkins, Fuhrman & Holthaus; and The Corona Firm, LLP. In 2005, Mr. Fuhrman opened his law office in Encinitas, which serves a wide spectrum of legal issues which face families and businesses.

Mr. Fuhrman is a member of the California Bar Association, the San Diego County Bar Association, the San Diego Trial Lawyers Association, the San Diego Family Law Bar Association, and the North County Bar Association, for which he co-chairs the Real Estate Section.

Mr. Fuhrman has also been active in the broader community. He has been a Big Brother and Past President of San Diego Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He is a past president of the San Diego School of Law Alumni Association and currently serves on the board of directors of the La Costa 35 Athletic Club, for which he manages softball teams in Summer and Winter.

Mr. Fuhrman’s individual clients include attorneys, doctors, engineers, salesmen, software developers, teachers and truck drivers.  He has formed companies in construction, manufacturing, retail and wholesale food distribution, chiropractic care, property management, the delivery of health care services and software design and development, for which he continues to provide a full range of legal services.

Mr. Fuhrman continues to guide clients through every facet of divorce and family law ... including child custody, domestic violence, child move away issues, child and spousal support, property division and business valuation. He, also, litigates juvenile court delinquency and dependency cases, in which Child Protective Services is involved.
