Divorce Mediation Costs: Is Cyber Mediation an Answer?

Thursday, June, 9, 2011

It is no secret that divorce mediation costs a great deal less in terms of both time and finances than a traditional divorce pursued exclusively through the medium of the judicial system.  Now, college students at the University of Minnesota are learning more about the mediation process by using a cyber mediation program.  The project began when a senior at the university, Jai Kassoon, encountered a dispute in his own family.  Seeking a good way to help them resolve the issue, Kasson created an online mediation web site.

The professor supervising the project was not impressed at first, saying that such a web site could never work.  In one of those ironies of academia, this professor was later ordered by a court to use this exact site during his own divorce two years later.

Divorce Mediation Costs Dramatically Lowered

The site has since grown greatly in popularity.  More than 20,000 different families across the United States currently subscribe and receive mediation services through the site; all 50 states of the nation are represented among their number.  There are also clients in other English-speaking nations around the world, including Canada, Australia, and Great Britain.

Cyber mediation is not for everyone; some people will find that working with a mediation attorney in person yields the best results in their individual situation.
