Minnehaha County, Correct Care Solutions Inc. Schedule Mediation in Wrongful Death Suit

Monday, February, 10, 2014

A detoxification facility located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota has been sued by the family of a woman who died while under its care.  The facility, Correct Care Solutions Inc., and the county have officially requested mediation to resolve the lawsuit without a trial.

Charleen Karr was brought to the facility after a suicide attempt.  She died while under the facility’s care after drinking rubbing alcohol.  It was later revealed that at the time of Karr’s death, the facility was on probation from State regulators.  The family filed a Wrongful Death suit, alleging employee negligence.  The probation was lifted about five months after the incident involving Karr.

While the facility has not commented publicly on the incident, both the facility and the county have acted in concert requesting mediation, which will likely be granted.  Mediation, of course, does not have any binding authority and if a settlement cannot be reached with the family, their lawsuit will proceed to the courts.
