New Mediation Center Announces Opening in London

Wednesday, June, 10, 2020

A group of experienced mediators has come together to open the London Chamber of Arbitration and Mediation (LCAM). The London-based alternative dispute resolution center opened in late May and features a panel of nearly two dozen mediators and arbitrators, some of whom are the most well-known in the industry.

According to the chief executive of the organization, Richard Burge, “For many businesses, this is the most unprecedented time in which they have had to operate. Covid-19 is testing and will test, many aspects of the economy and existing business arrangements and contracts. The London Chamber of Arbitration and Mediation will have an important role to play in supporting companies within this context and we have gathered an expert panel to assist in doing that.”

Those responsible for launching the center are hoping businesses and individuals will be encouraged to consider mediation and arbitration since it is more easily accessible now. Mediation can be used at any stage in a dispute, from the drafting of an initial contract to dealing with a dispute once the disputing parties have been inside of the courtroom. The key is often making sure those involved know mediation is an option and an option at all stages of the dispute. It is also an option even if the parties involved see no way it could work. An experienced mediator with a keen understanding of the industry can help.

The center is promising to use “blockchain” technology to ensure case management is secure and efficient. It will also offer mediation and arbitration services at a fixed fee to ensure affordability.
