Online Mediation News: Oregon Ducks Mourning Lockout

Tuesday, June, 7, 2011

In online mediation news this week, the University of Oregon's football players, the 2010 Pac-10 champiions, are unhappy with the continuing NFL lockout.  There was a chance that talks this past Wednesday could have helped the NFL players' representatives and the team owners to settle their differences, but the talks broke down with no resolution in sight.  This is a hard prospect for college players such as those in Eugene to face, since it looks like there is no mediation measures in sight and it might spell an end to an entire season; and with it, their hopes of signing onto a team after graduation.

Online Mediation News: Football Prospects Looking Bleak

According to NFL.com, the “NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith and other union officials attended Wednesday's secret talks with several NFL owners in the Chicago area.”  The points of contention are more than the usual salary demands.  This time, NFL players are demanding additional insurance coverage for players who must face the prospect of repeated concussions – and this coverage, according to the players, must not end when their professional careers do.  Players who have repeatedly had head trauma may need specialized treatments for many years after their playing days are over.

College players in Eugene are not alone in their dismay that the lockout is set to continue indefinitely.  The town is full of NFL fans that look forward to the season every year.
