I am an attorney located in Denver, Colorado.  I am a board certified Child Welfare Law Specialist (CWLS) and Child & Family Investigator.  I have experience conducting numerous independent investigations and making as many recommendations to the court, in the best interests of children.  I am a previous Guardian Ad Litem and winner of a state issued RFP/Contract – a founding member of a multidisciplinary law firm selected to represent Dependent & Neglected children in the Denver Juvenile Court.  To learn more about my firm and other practice areas please browse through my website.

Gabriela has experience working for large for-profit corporations and nationally recognized non-profits including Outward Bound, Environmental Defense and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. She has also worked for Colorado state government and private law firms. Gabriela is licensed to practice law in Colorado, Virginia and before the United States District Court, District of Colorado.  After reflecting on her previous employment and volunteer experiences, she turned her mission to advocate for the most vulnerable members of our society into a reality by launching her own child and animal focused law practice in October 2007.

No stranger to pro bono work, Gabriela volunteers on a regular basis with local organizations including Project Safeguard and has also served on the Board of Directors of local non-profit, Rocky Mountain Animal Defense. She currently serves as co-chair of Denver CASA’s Inclusiveness Committee and as of January 2013 will be a member of Denver CASA’s Board of Directors.  In May 2008, Gabriela authored an article published in The Colorado Lawyer entitled, The Basics of Pet Trusts for Estate Planning Attorneys. Gabriela has also appeared as a guest on local news program Good Morning Colorado discussing Pet Custody issues. She is often featured in The American Dog Magazine writing about Animal Rights and related legal issues. In addition to dedicating time to do pro bono work for the Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center, participating in the comprehensive CASA training program and volunteering for other organizations, Gabriela Sandoval attends trainings on ethics, litigation strategy, Juvenile, Family and Animal Law. She is serious about staying informed and up-to-date. During her first three years of practice, she managed to accumulate twice the number of continuing legal education credits required by the Colorado Supreme Court. She was a participant in the highly recognized National Institute for Trial Advocacy in 2007 and 2009 in addition to attending Child Welfare Law conferences in beautiful Keystone, Colorado in 2007, 2008 and 2009.  She attended the Cornerstone Advocacy conference in Broomfield in 2010 and the Salida Child Welfare conference in 2011.

In 2007, Gabriela was offered a contract with the Colorado Office of the Child’s Representative where she served as Guardian ad Litem (GAL) until January 2012.

In 2009, Gabriela served as Faculty for the March 2009 Juvenile Law CLE, Juvenile Law Hot Topics, Linking Animal Cruelty & Child Abuse.

In 2010, GAL work in Denver changed dramatically.  Gabriela was a winner of the state issued RFP and founding partner of a new multidisciplinary Child Welfare law practice.

In 2011, Gabriela completed the Colorado Child & Family Investigator Training Academy.

In 2012, Gabriela completed the Colorado Child & Family Investigator Training facilitated by Three Trusts, Inc. and sponsored by the CO State Court Administrator’s Office.

In 2012, Gabriela became a board certified Child Welfare Law Specialist, certified by the National Association of Counsel for Children.

In 2013, Gabriela completed mediation training and became a Standard Member of the Mediation Association of Colorado.

Gabriela currently serves as a Child and Family Investigator (CFI) for families throughout the Denver Metro area.

Although Gabriela has considered Colorado home since 1995, she is really an east coast girl at heart – spending her years growing up in Connecticut’s New Haven county.  She earned her undergraduate degree from Colorado State University and her law degree from University of Denver, Sturm College of Law.

Gabriela Sandoval is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, National Association of Counsel for Children, American Bar Association’s Center on Children and the Law, Animal Legal Defense Fund, The Mediation Association of Colorado and the AFCC.

Mediation is a very attractive alternative to pet and other animal litigation.  Litigation is costly and time consuming and mediation offers disputing parties an opportunity to work with a professional neutral who will facilitate a safe environment, confidential discussion and assist in focusing self-determined parties on understanding each others interests.  During your pet or animal related mediation, Gabriela Sandoval will encourage you to generate and evaluate all of your possible options for resolution.  Creativity is encouraged.  Unlike a judge, pet mediator Gabriela Sandoval cannot force a decision upon you and the rules related to trial practice do not apply.  Disputing parties are focused on discovering their own solutions based upon their own unique needs. Whether you are disputing pet custody in a divorce, dangerous dog allegations, allegations of professional negligence or veterinary malpractice or compensation and redress for death or injury to an animal, pet animal mediation may be the answer.  Call Animal Lawyer and Pet Mediator Gabriela Sandoval for more information or to schedule your pet mediation intake.
