Justice Alfred J Weiner (Ret.) is of counsel to the law firm of Mandel, Katz and Brosnan LLP in Valley Cottage, New York. Justice Weiner’s practice focuses on mediation of any matter which would serve the party’s best interests and needs, including matrimonial, wills, trusts and estates, surrogates court practice, elder law, commercial. personal injury , medical malpractice and any other disputes, providing valuable assistance to litigants and their attorneys and of course to the courts.
Before joining MK&B, Justice Weiner was a Justice of the New York State Supreme Court, Ninth Judicial District, and served for more than 40 years on the bench. Prior to presiding as a Supreme Court Justice, he was Judge of the Surrogate's Court of Rockland County, Judge of the Family Court of Rockland County, Supervising Judge of the Family Courts in the Ninth Judicial District and Town Justice of the Town of Ramapo.
The Judge has presided over hundreds of trials including many cases involving real estate, commercial litigation, contract, personal injury, labor law violations, medical malpractice, surrogate court litigation, and family and matrimonial law.
He is a mediator for the US Federal District Court Southern District and is a master arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association. Judge Weiner also serves as a commissioner on the New York State Law Revision Commission which studies and makes recommendations to the legislature and governor on proposed changes to New York State law.
Throughout his many years on the bench, Justice Weiner has been active in various judicial associations. The Judge was the past president of the New York State Surrogates Association and New York State Family Court Judges Association and a past trustee of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. Until recently, the Judge was a member of the New York State Association of Supreme Court Judges Executive Committee, representing the Supreme Court Judges in the Ninth Judicial District.
The Judge has also served as a member of the New York State CLE Board, the Surrogate's Court Rules and Advisory Committee to the Chief Administrative Judge and the Family Court Advisory Committee. In addition, he has taught surrogate practice as a former adjunct professor at Pace University Law School.
