I am an attorney licensed to practice law in North Carolina and a mediator certified by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission to conduct mediations for Superior Court. I am approved by and listed with the North Carolina Industrial Commission for mediation of workers’ compensation cases and tort claims.

For over 21 years I served as a Deputy Commissioner with the N.C. Industrial Commission, hearing and deciding workers’ compensation cases and tort claims. I now travel throughout the State of North Carolina, to provide my services as a mediator, to assist the parties in resolving their disputes without going to court. I can help the parties consider both the positive and negative aspects of their case, help them brainstorm as to settlement options, and help them consider the possible outcomes should the case go to a hearing.

I view mediation as an opportunity to be a peacemaker, to help the parties resolve conflict in a positive and constructive manner. I look forward to assisting you in resolving your disputes through mediation.

The Mediation Process.

Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution process that allows the parties to meet informally to attempt to resolve their disputes, with the assistance of a trained neutral third party, the mediator. The mediator’s role is to facilitate discussion between the parties, and to help each party understand the other party’s view of the matter, to help the parties identify the issues to be resolved and to help them consider various options that could lead to mutually satisfying resolution of these issues. The mediator is not a judge and does not decide the issues between the parties. The mediator’s ultimate goal is to assist the parties so that the parties may resolve their dispute and reach a final settlement.

Mediation provides the benefits that the parties are in control of the outcome; the parties can resolve disputes more quickly as they do not need to wait for a hearing or trial; and the parties can avoid the additional expense involved in litigation and going to court.
