Mediation is the process in which the divorcing couples are able to negotiate all the issues regarding the end or their relationships with the help of non-biased, neutral professional.  As the result the couples will arrive at the agreements that will work for them, and will be fair to their children. It is tremendously beneficial to the couples when their agreements are created by themselves without the involvement of the courts. The most important one is that, once people own their decisions, their agreements rarely break, thus even for the future the couples can avoid using the court system that is expensive and unkind.  The parties will be able to customize their parenting plans and any other arrangements depending on their own circumstances. Another great benefit of mediation is that people learn negotiating skills in its process. Thus, should a change to their agreements arrive in a future, they are already capable to resolve their issues by themselves through negotiation and avoid litigation.

It is greatly beneficial to the children of divorce when their parents approach the parenting issues through mediation. In mediation environment it is easier for both parents to appreciate the importance of each other in their children’s lives and that their respective parenting role must continue. In litigation on the other hand the children are exposed to their parents’ fights and are very often trapped in loyalty struggle. Mediation is in uniquely suitable to facilitate child friendly outcomes.
