Mr. Shekey was born in St. Petersburg, Florida. Shortly after his graduation from high school, he entered the United States Navy. Following his active duty military service, Mr. Shekey attended college while concurrently working in the concrete manufacturing/supply business, as well as in the construction industry primarily involving tract housing and industrial projects.
After graduating from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, Mr. Shekey attended and graduated from Whittier Law School in Los Angeles, California. Mr. Shekey became a licensed California attorney in 1989.
While practicing law in the private sector, Mr. Shekey had been a defense attorney and specialized in professional liability (medical malpractice) and construction law (construction defect litigation).
While practicing in the public sector, Mr. Shekey had been a Deputy Attorney General (prosecuting trial attorney) with the California Department of Justice, Civil Division, in Los Angeles, California. During his tenure with the Office of the Attorney General, Mr. Shekey represented the Contractors State License Board, the Architects Board, the Board of Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, the Board of Real Estate and the Board of Real Estate Appraisers.
Mr. Shekey is a licensed building contractor and a licensed real estate broker in both California and Florida.
Mr. Shekey is both a certified mediator and arbitrator.
