MICHAEL R. MAGARIL, ESQ.  has been providing mediation services to families faced with the challenges of separation and Divorce for more than 15 years as a central focus of his family law practice.  He is qualified as a court-approved family mediator and serves both on the Family Court’s Roster of Economic Mediators and on the court system’s Matrimonial Early Settlement Panel, assisting parties in their settlement efforts on the eve of trial.

As a mediator, he helps couples arrive at settlements that actually work for them by focusing on the development post-divorce life plans for the family as a whole, and then working on the allocation of family resources to allow each party to move forward with a higher degree of certainty about the future.  In connection with that process, he uses a variety of tools, including computer programs to calculate the tax impact of any given settlement structure, computer software that assists parents in managing calendars and the sharing of child related expenses and audio visual aids.  When necessary, he also can draw on a broad network of qualified experts including accountants, mental health professionals, financial analysts and mortgage specialists to answer questions or provide services and solutions to each family’s problems.

His approach to mediation recognizes that most importantly, divorce and separation are emotionally challenging experiences.  The need of divorcing or separating parties to have a safe and relaxed environment is always honored.  To that end he maintains flexible hours, including evening hours, at his home-like office in Westfield, New Jersey.  In addition to his work as a mediator, he also is qualified as a Collaborative Divorce practitioner and provides traditional legal representation as well.
