With almost 34 years of experience as a practicing attorney, Warren Zimmerman now devotes most of his professional energy to mediation, among other forms of alternative dispute resolution, and lawyer-to-lawyer consulting.  His office is near Tampa, Florida, but he is available to help resolve disputes in almost any venue.

Mr. Zimmerman is a native of Cleveland, Ohio.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Yale University with honors and earned his law degree at the University of Michigan with high honors in 1979.

Mr. Zimmerman began his legal career in Chicago, where he served for several years with the State's Attorney's Office for Cook County, Illinois, prosecuting criminal cases.  In 1983 he realized his goal of becoming a federal prosecutor when he was hired by the United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida in Tampa.

Mr. Zimmerman worked in the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney's Office from late 1983 until March 1987, handling 16 felony jury trials.  He then switched to the Civil Division, where he served for 21 years, the last 14 as Division Chief.  In that capacity, Mr. Zimmerman supervised virtually all civil litigation filed by or against the United States and its agencies in an area encompassing Tampa, Jacksonville, Orlando, Ocala, Lakeland, Sarasota, Fort Myers and Naples.  Mr. Zimmerman handled many sophisticated cases involving personal injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death, employment discrimination, contract and suretyship, bankruptcy, foreclosure, administrative law, and health care and other program fraud.

After retiring from the federal service in 2008, Mr. Zimmerman worked as a plaintiff’s attorney in Fort Myers and Tampa for almost five years.  Given the breadth of his experience and his reputation for creative problem-solving and high scholarship, Mr. Zimmerman also serves as a lawyer-to-lawyer consultant.

Mr. Zimmerman has been certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Circuit Civil Mediator since January 2006.  He is also rostered as a mediator by the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

Mr. Zimmerman is a member of the Illinois and Florida Bars and is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Middle District of Florida and Northern District of Illinois and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

In his spare time, Mr. Zimmerman enjoys baseball.  He was a member of Tedd Webb’s trivia panel on WFLA Radio’s “The Sports Huddle” in the late 1980s.
