Bill is an attorney with over 35 years of experience, with a broad-based commercial background, that includes substantial experience in both litigation and transactional matters.  Clients have included major corporations, banks, savings and loan associations, mortgage banking companies, insurance companies, the Resolution Trust Corporation, and the FDIC, as well as small businesses and individuals.

 

Bill began his practice in Minneapolis at the firm of Hessian, Mckasy & Soderberg, P.A. [n/k/a Moss and Barnett], where he worked primarily in the areas of litigation, real estate, banking, business, and employment law.  After many years in private practice, Bill gained in-house counsel experience, serving as Corporate Counsel to Digi International, Inc., Senior Counsel to Bank of America, and General Counsel to United Mortgage Corporation, a large regional mortgage banking firm.  Bill is now back in private practice.  In addition to continuing to provides legal services to clients in areas described above, he also offers mediation and arbitration services. 

 

Bill has been a trained mediator and arbitrator for more than 15 years, and he is listed on the Minnesota Supreme Court System ADR Rule 114 Neutrals Roster.  He has served as a district court-appointed arbitrator, as well as a Conciliation Court Judge.  He also represents clients in mediation and arbitration proceedings.  With his extensive success in both putting deals together, and also asserting and defending his clients’ rights in court, as well as a practical understanding how businesses operate from the inside, Bill can draw upon such an uncommon combination different perspectives to provide even more effective services as attorney, mediator and arbitrator.  

 

Bill was born in Chicago, but has lived in Minnesota for over 50 years.  He graduated from Edina High School, Northwestern University, and the University of Minnesota Law School.  He and his wife live in Bloomington, where they raised their four children.  They also have four grandchildren
