Douglas A. Donnell specializes in commercial, personal injury, construction and environmental litigation and has represented public and private sector clients and has mediated and arbitrated cases in these areas.  He is a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution and Environmental Law Sections of the American Bar Association and the Michigan Bar Association. Doug has been named as one of only 50  Certified Mediators by the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan. He has been a frequent speaker at seminars and continuing education programs on a variety of litigation topics and has served as lead counsel in numerous cases before the Michigan Court of Appeals, the Michigan Supreme Court and the federal Sixth and Seventh Circuit Courts of Appeals. He has been recognized for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America every year since 2010 and by Michigan Super Lawyers every year since 2011 and  was named by Best Lawyers as Grand Rapids’ 2012, 2016, 2018 and 2020 Lawyer of the Year in Environmental Litigation based on peer reviews.  He was also selected for inclusion in Grand Rapids Magazine's 2019 Top Lawyers. Doug graduated magna cum laude from Miami University in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and received his law degree cum laude in 1979 from Boston College Law School.
