Why Mediation

Mediation provides a forum and an atmosphere in which parties gain understanding, work together to explore options for resolution and weigh those options against alternatives. While a neutral third party (the Mediator) guides the process, the disputing parties themselves explore what is really important to each of them and ultimately determine the outcome. While the benefits of mediation vary somewhat depending upon the nature of the dispute and the model of mediation applied, the following are typically associated with mediation:

 Informal, non-adversarial process

Mutually acceptable and voluntary agreement

Parties control the outcome

Avoid excessive time, expense and stress of litigation

Can be handled quickly and confidentially

Broken relationships can be mended

Ensuing relief can be significant

Final agreement in writing to ensure understanding
