Mr. Byrd has been admitted to the practice of law since 1989 and focuses on securing the financial futures of Tampa Bay's diverse families. As such, his primary areas of practice are Family Law and Estate Planning, including: divorce, child custody, child support and visitation, adoption as well as preparing last wills, trusts, living wills, and powers of attorney. Kim Byrd believes that the keys to long-term success are unfailing integrity in his business dealings, strong knowledge of the law, and excellent communication with his clients. He views his role as both your attorney and your legal counselor. Mr. Byrd stands ready to be a vigorous advocate of your legal rights. He also understands that your best interest is often served by helping you reach a peaceful resolution in your legal matter.

My qualifications begin with 14 years of experience in all of my areas of practice. At least every other year I attend the Florida Family Law Review class, where current law on all issues in family law is reviewed. I am a member of the Tampa Family Law Inn of Court and the Hillsborough County Bar Association Family Law Section. Both of these organizations provide ongoing instruction in family law issues and the opportunity to interact with other family attorneys and family law judges in an informal setting. I have been a presenter on family issues at the Basic Family Law continuing legal education class presented by the Young Lawyers section of the Florida Bar.

I am a member of the Family Law Institute, which is joint project of the National LGBT Bar Association and the National Center for Lesbian Rights. The FLI also presents an annual conference for LGBT family law attorneys during which experienced LGBT attorneys discuss the latest issues and techniques in representing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender clients in the areas of family law and estate planning. I am also a frequent speaker on attorney panels addressing LGBT issues.

I have been admitted to the practice of law since 1989. My first years were spent at a large firm in New York that represented large corporations. I eventually realized that I wanted to represent individuals with legal issues that touched their personal lives such as estate planning and divorce. My primary areas of practice are Family Law, including: divorce, child custody (now called the Parenting Plan), child support and visitation (now called timesharing), adoption and Estate Planning, including the preparation of last wills, trusts, living wills, and powers of attorney. I focus on legal issues faced by members of Tampa Bay’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community, including same sex divorce. I have 14 years of experience in each of these areas.

I believe that the keys to long-term success are unfailing integrity in my client representation, strong knowledge of the law, and excellent communication with my clients.

I view my role as both your attorney and your legal counselor. I stand ready to be a vigorous advocate of your legal rights. I also understand that your best interest is most often served by helping you reach a peaceful resolution in your legal matter. I tailor my approach to your needs and your case.
