Lawyers. That’s who we are.

There are close to 100,000 lawyers licensed to practice law in Illinois. Within that group are a wide range of personalities, skills, and temperaments. Not every lawyer is like those in novels or movies or true legends at the bar: Atticus Finch or Perry Mason or Clarence Darrow.

But at Poulos Black, P.C., we like to think of ourselves as lawyers through and through: people who live to solve problems for our clients, to seek justice, to do what is right. Whether we succeed is not for us to say, but with a practice spanning over 40 years and clients who have been with us for decades, we like to think we approach our ideal.

These days many lawyers focus on a narrow slice of law: real estate closings or estate planning or divorce or forming businesses or medical malpractice. And that means you need a different lawyer for each area of law. At Poulos Black P.C. we are dedicated to maintaining the expertise to help you with whatever needs may come along, from closing on your house to starting your business to planning your estate to civil court and even to criminal court. And for those areas where we do not practice, we often have trusted colleagues who we can refer you to. We are looking for clients we can establish lifetime relationships with. A crisis is not the best time to find a lawyer in whom to trust your money or your family or your future. We like to be there for you before you need us.

We are proud to have obtained the 51st highest tort settlement in Chicago Lawyer Magazine’s 1999 survey–won in only 49 weeks. We have published opinions from the Illinois Supreme Court and Appellate Court and the United States District Court and Court of Appeals. Michael co-authored a book on divorce law, helped draft Muti-Board Residential Real Estate Contract 5.0, and furnished sample business organization documents on the Illinois State Bar Association forms exchange. He won an important case for consumer rights before the Illinois Supreme Court, won three trials for victims of racially motivated police violence, and won a case followed around the world to bring about better corporate governance to a religious foundation. He received a distinguished alumni citation from Ripon College, was featured on the front page of his law school’s alumni magazine, and, with his wife Suzanne, was honored by the Lincoln Academy of Illinois.

Michael began practicing law at 1724 Sherman Avenue in Evanston in 1980, forming Michael D. Poulos, P.C. in 1982. In 2011 he teamed with his long time friend and associate, C. Robert Black, to form Poulos Black P.C. Michael’s wife, Suzanne, manages the office and acts as our legal secretary. She is often your first point of contact.

If you are interested in retaining us please call 847-492-9800 and speak to Suzanne. She will schedule an appointment for you, or put you through on the phone if someone is avaialble. Daytime, evening, and weekend appointments are available. Due to the Covid pandemic, we will most frequently speak by phone or Zoom.
