Marcia Adelson is an Attorney and Sole Proprietor at Marcia L. Adelson, Esq., a position she has held since April 2003.  Since January 2014, her practice is focused on providing arbitration and mediation services.  Ms. Adelson is an approved mediator for FINRA, the Southern District Court of New York, the New York City Commercial Division, and Westchester Supreme Court – Commercial and Civil Divisions. She is a 2014 American Arbitration Association Higginbotham Fellow and is a member of the American Arbitration Association’s roster of Commercial Arbitrators.  Ms. Adelson is also on the roster of approved arbitrators for FINRA, the National Futures Association (NFA), and the Ninth Judicial District of New York – Part 137: Attorney Client Fee Dispute Program.  She has served as both Chair and Panelist on Attorney Client Fee Arbitrations and is qualified to be the Chairperson of FINRA arbitrations.

 

In her legal practice and as Of Counsel to Eppenstein and Eppenstein, Ms. Adelson represented US and international clients in a wide range of large and complex arbitration and litigation matters.  The matters handled by Ms. Adelson included commodities fraud and securities fraud, stockbroker abuses, securities industry and other employment disputes and general commercial litigation.   Her client was usually a victim of fraud or negligence or breach of contract on the part of a broker dealer, registered representative, registered investment advisor or other financial services firm.  Many cases have involved losses in excess of $5 million.  Ms. Adelson is skilled in all phases of litigation from the initial assessment of the claim through discovery, motion practice, trial and post trial work.   While some cases were litigated in court, most were arbitrated at either at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) or the American Arbitration Association (AAA).

 

From 1990 through 2002, Ms. Adelson was a financial planner with American Express Financial Advisors, Inc. (now Ameriprise Financial). She built a financial planning practice with more than 100 clients and $20 million under management. She achieved the highest client satisfaction ratings in annual client satisfaction surveys. Ms. Adelson was responsible for designing and implementing the financial plans for her clients. During the period 1991 to 1994, Ms. Adelson was active in training new advisors, including teaching investment and security product knowledge, suitability, time management and financial planning techniques. She was Certified Financial Planner (SM) from 1993 to 2013.

 

Ms. Adelson has a Bachelor of Arts degree fromSwarthmoreCollegein economics with a concentration in public policy. She also has a Masters of Business degree in Finance fromColumbiaUniversityand a Juris Doctor degree fromPaceUniversity.
